The Thompson Ecumenical Empowerment Group is a small social service agency helping to meet the needs of Northeastern Connecticut residents for over 27 years. TEEG’s mission is to strengthen the local community by Empowering individuals to live independently; Strengthening families to live respectfully; Engaging the community to work collaboratively; and Connecting resources to promote a better future for all.

 

 

Head Start incorporates a strong family involvement component, ensuring that families are involved in their child’s education. Head Start ensures children’s readiness for school success. The program also increases parental knowledge about children’s growth-and-development in order to support children’s learning. Other benefits of Head Start include support with health, dental, nutrition, and mental health needs.

 

 

The Northeast Early Childhood Council (NECC) is a local, regional early childhood collaborative that includes the Killingly, Plainfield, Putnam and Sterling, CT communities. There is representation from each of the communities on the Council, its Committees, and Task Forces.  They are an independent, open group working together to improve outcomes for young children, birth through age eight, and their families in the region.For more information please visit the NECC website at neccouncil.org or visit their official Facebook page . The Thompson Public Library/Community Center is a 20,400 square foot facility. The collection consists of about 55,000 items — books, books on CD, DVDs & videotapes, music CDs, 90+ magazine & newspaper subscriptions, and access to various online resources.

 

 

The Thompson Recreation Department hosts a plethora of recreational offerings for both children and adults in the town, including (but not limited to): Community Day, summer Adventure Camp, senior activities, bus trips, and sports. The ultimate goal of the organization is “to enhance, promote, and support quality recreation facilities and opportunities for all residents of the community”.

 

 

Thompson is a unique town located in the northeast corner of Connecticut bordering Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In Thompson you will find many different villages with a variety of housing and a unique rural character with a beautiful country setting.
